Suspicion Grows As Bulkachuwa Orders Kwara Governorship Tribunal to Abuja
The proceedings of the Kwara Elections Petition Tribunal has been dramatically halted this morning because the Chairman and Members of the Tribunal have been ordered not to sit as planned but instead to report to Abuja with immediate effect.
A source close to the Tribunal who spoke on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the order came from the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa. “All the Judges of the Tribunal arrived in Ilorin safely yesterday to start sitting today as arranged by the calendar. But they received a call in the night telling them not to sit an that they must report to the President of the Court of Appeal”
It would be recalled that the Tribunal had earlier adjourned sitting on 14 June 2019 to o July 2019 for the PDP and its Governorship flagbearer to continue its case. The Lawyers to PDP seemed to be taken by surprise and shocked about the sudden “order from above”.
On the other hand, Lawyers to INEC and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq did not show any sign of surprise.
It is not clear why Justice Bulkachuwa suddenly summoned the Tribunal to Abuja, but suspicion is rife about a hidden agenda and interference in the work of the Tribunal. One lawyer is heard to have commented to his colleague in passing that “this is highly unusual and suspicious. I smell a rat”
Recall that the Tribunal was Petition that the Governor had submitted to INEC an affidavit containing false information of a fundamental nature in aid of his qualification for the said election in that his WAEC Certificate was a fake and forged document. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, although has denied that it is fake, he has since not produced the original of the Certificate for verification.
