The tie was in a tough Premier League match as Spanish striker Alvaro Morata once again demonstrated his ability to all Chelsea faithfuls.
West Brom started the match impressive, but Chelsea had the first chance to score when Marcos Alonso supplied a powerful cross inside the box which was well blocked by West Brom goalie Ben Foster.
Chelsea scored their first goal in the 17th minute when Belgian star Eden Hazard fired a powerful shot in which Alvaro Morata tapped in a loose ball.
